Installing your Rigid Click vinyl floor

STEP 1: Prepare your subfloor

Rigid Click vinyl can be installed on irregular subfloors and makes subfloor preparation unnecessary in most cases. But we still highly recommend making sure the surface is dry, level, stable and clean. Remove all existing floor covering before getting started.

The quality of your subfloor has a big influence on the final installation result. If the subfloor is not appropriate for the installation of Rigid Click vinyl, necessary actions should be taken.

STEP 2: Choose your underlay

The right underlay has a big impact on the final result. Pergo Rigid Click vinyl underlays have a noise-reducing and levelling function. The smooth top surface makes installing the rigid vinyl panels easier and allows for floor shrinkage and expansion afterwards.

STEP 4: Install your underlay

It’s about to go down! Unfold your Pergo underlay and install the first strip in the same direction as you plan to lay your floor. Gradually add strips of underlay as you progress. Use a thin adhesive tape to connect the underlay strips and avoid overlapping them.

STEP 5: Start laying your Rigid Click vinyl floor

Underlay in place?

  1. First, check how many full rows of planks you will need by dividing the width of the room by the width of a plank.

  2. Thanks to the versatile Uniclic click system, you can work in either direction. Consider the easiest way to install the floor before you start.

  3. Start with the first plank you will install in the corner of the room. Remove the click profile on both the long and the short side of the plank by sawing it off.

  4. For other planks of the first row (not in the corner), remove the click profile on the long side that will be directly next to the wall. Any side of a plank that is directly next to a wall must have its click profile removed in order to ensure the required expansion gap.

  5. Uniclic is unique because you can install the planks in two different ways: angling or by tapping.

  6. Continue the installation in this manner – row by row – towards the end of the room. The easiest way to work is to sit on the already installed planks.

  7. Note that Rigid Click should always be installed “floating”, i.e. without glue.

STEP 6: Cut your vinyl planks

Inevitably, you’ll need to cut a few Rigid Click vinyl planks while installing them.

  • To shorten the length of the plank you need to saw the planks. Depending on the type of saw, position your plank with the decor side face-up or face-down. Before making the actual cut, use a leftover piece to determine how the cleanest cut can be obtained (decor side face-up or face-down).

Use a pencil to draw your cutting lines. And don’t forget your gloves!

STEP 7: Finish in style and keep it waterproof

Almost there! Remove all spacers and install matching skirting boards and colour-matched (5-in-1) or aluminium profiles to finish off your flooring project.

Want a waterproof finish? Secure the floor with:

  • a PE foam strip with adhesive backing to fill up expansion joints
  • aqua sealant for invisible and waterproof finishing
  • a transparent hydro strip for your colour-matched skirting

You’re done!

Installing your Flex Click & Flex Glue vinyl floor

STEP 1: Choose between click or glue

Going for Flex vinyl? Excellent choice. But how do you want to install your new floor? There are two options, each with their own specific advantages:

  • Flex Click: the easiest and cleanest way to go, with all the stability you’ll need.
  • Flex Glue: offers even more stability. Gluing the floor down means that it doesn’t expand or shrink under any conditions.

STEP 2: Prepare your subfloor

A perfectly level and firmly fixed subfloor is vital to avoid problems. If the subfloor is not appropriate for the installation of Flex Click & Flex Glue vinyl, necessary actions should be taken.

  • Must be removed: carpet, needle felt, cushion vinyl, floating floor coverings.

  • Does not have to be removed: ceramic tile, glued-down laminate and glued-down lacquered parquet, fixed wood boards, etc.

  • Does not have to be removed, but use of PE foil is mandatory to avoid migration: glued PVC, hard PVC, VCT, glued linoleum and glued-down oiled parquet.

STEP 3: Choose your underlay (Flex Click) or glue (Flex Glue)

If you opt for a floating installation, choosing the right underlay is crucial for a satisfactory result.

Opting for a glued-down installation instead? Our Pergo vinyl glue is a high-quality adhesive specially developed for vinyl floors.

STEP 4: Collect your tools

You don’t need special equipment to install your Flex Click & Flex Glue vinyl floor. These basic tools will do the job:

  • Tape measure or folding ruler
  • Calculator
  • Pencil
  • Bevel tool
  • Concave cutting knife
  • Saw
  • Tape
  • Gloves
  • Trowel
  • Moisture meter
  • Pergo installation set
  • Pergo underlay system or glue

If you don’t have everything at hand, don’t worry! You’ll find all the equipment you need at a nearby well-equipped DIY centre.

STEP 5: Install your underlay (Flex Click)

About to install a Flex Click floor? Unfold your Pergo underlay and install the first strip in the same direction as you plan to lay your floor. Gradually add strips of underlay as you progress the floor installation. Use a thin adhesive tape to connect the underlay strips and avoid overlapping them.

STEP 6: Start laying your Flex Click vinyl floor

  1. First, check how many full rows of planks you will need by dividing the width of the room by the width of a plank.

  2. Thanks to the versatile PerfectFold™ V click system, you can click the planks into place using one of the three methods. Consider the easiest way to install the floor before you start.

  3. Start with the first plank you will install in the corner of the room. Remove the click profiles on both the long and the short sides of the plank by sawing them off.

  4. For other planks of the first row (not in the corner), remove the click profile on the long side that will be directly next to the wall. Any side of a plank that is directly next to a wall must have its click profile removed in order to ensure the required expansion gap.

  5. PerfectFold™ V is unique because you can install the planks in three different ways: with a drop down, an angle or by tapping.

  6. Continue the installation in this manner - row by row - towards the end of the room. The easiest way to work is to sit on the already installed planks.

STEP 7: Cut your vinyl planks

Inevitably, you’ll need to cut a few Flex Click & Flex Glue vinyl planks while installing them.

  • To shorten the length of the plank, you can use a special concave vinyl cutting knife. Position your plank with the decor side face-up, draw a straight line with a pencil and use the knife to make a firm cut in the surface. Then, break off the plank piece using both hands. The concave vinyl cutting knife is also ideal for cutting your planks into a special shape. Cut the shape into the vinyl plank making sure that the cuts will fit snugly. Then, break the shape out of the plank.

Use a pencil to draw your cutting lines. And don’t forget your gloves!

STEP 8: Finish in style and keep it waterproof

Almost there! Remove all spacers and install matching skirting boards and colour-matched (5-in-1) or aluminium profiles to finish off your flooring project.

Want a waterproof finish? Secure the floor with a transparent hydro strip for your colour-matched skirting.

You're all set to throw a party - if you want!
