Pergo’s origins begin at the world-renowned Perstorp AB in Sweden, which began manufacturing high quality decorative laminate in the early 1950’s. A pivotal acquisition in 1974 became the start of what would soon develop into a never before seen category in the flooring industry - Laminate flooring.

Pergo’s origins begin at the world-renowned Perstorp AB in Sweden, which began manufacturing high quality decorative laminate in the early 1950’s. A pivotal acquisition in 1974 became the start of what would soon develop into a never before seen category in the flooring industry - Laminate flooring.

1974
Perstorp AB acquires competitor AB Tilafabriken in nearby Trelleborg. This gives Perstorp a complete factory for producing bonded products, and the technology and ability to refine its own laminate into various end products such as countertops, windowsills, wall panels and more.

1977
The Idé-77 committee at Perstorp comes up with the concept of laminate flooring during one of its brainstorming sessions; see “The Story of Laminate”.

1979
Following successful trials and development, the first laminate flooring is finally put into production.

1980
The first laminate flooring, Perstorp Golv GL80, is sold in Sweden.

1984
Major marketing event proves highly successful and electrifies the Swedish flooring market.

1985
To meet rapidly growing demand, a new modern facility for manufacturing laminate flooring is built and opened in Trelleborg, Sweden.

1989
After a naming competition the brand name ‘Pergo’, an acronym of Perstorp Golv (Flooring), is introduced for the first time.

1990
The highly successful flooring division at Perstorp is incorporated as a separate company with the name Perstorp Flooring AB.

1991
Perstorp participates as the first and only laminate flooring company at the Domotex trade fair in Germany. The following year seven exhibitors participate and six years later an entire exhibit hall will be filled with laminate flooring from 34 exhibitors.

1992
Launch of high-quality commercial grade product, Pergo Publiq.

1994
Pergo laminate flooring is introduced in the United States.

1995
Pergo is introduced in Asia and also invents technology for achieving unsurpassed scratch resistance, later marketed as TitanX.

1996
Flooring factory opens in Garner, North Carolina USA.

1999
Pergo files first patent for vertically joinable boards, later becoming the technical standard throughout the industry.

2000
Now organized as an international group of companies, the corporate name is officially changed from Perstorp Flooring to Pergo.

2001
Pergo introduces patented click joint locking technology as well as embossed decorated boards featuring matching realistic surface textures.

2004
Pergo builds the Four-in-One molding plant in Garner, North Carolina.

2005
First patent granted for Four-in-One molding technology.

2009
Pergo commemorates its 30-year history and embarks on the next 30 years by introducing innovative PerfectFold technology, setting a new technical standard for the industry.

2013
Pergo becomes a true multi-category brand by entering the wood flooring and vinyl flooring to the market.
